Mind Set: Don't Feel Guilty

Author: Alvaro Castillo The experience of guilt is an enormous burden. People actually feel guilty for feeling guilty. Often, those in the religious community are prone to complain about guilt. They perceive God as the ‘cop in the sky’ who is looking to apply retribution. Adults who were the products of poor parenting are more susceptible to real guilt and viewing God is a tyrannical figure. Unfortunately, people may doubt their salvation, feel like God has abandoned them and immerse themselves in obsessing over minor infractions. It is my opinion that we need to kick out any God that would make us feel small. A loving God cherishes His children, forgives them and elevates them in His eyes. We are His kings and queens, and we need to stand tall in His presence. Real guilt can be defined as missing the mark. We fall short of our convictions and need to make amends. We do this by accepting the forgiveness that is already our inheritance, forgiving ourselves f

The Legend and Charm of the Tooth Fairy

Author: Alvaro Castillo The legend and myth of the Tooth Fairy is a delightful part of our modern family culture. Kids dream about receiving a special gift or money from this charming, magical fairy. Adults fondly remember the Tooth Fairy as a wonderful childhood fantasy of their youth, and they pass on the mystery and charm to their own young children. In most households, the Tooth Fairy operates under cover of darkness, coming to visit after a child loses what are commonly called baby teeth. Parents help perpetuate the fantasy by showing their children how to place the lost tooth under their sleeping pillow or in a special holder or pillow made just for the Tooth Fairy. Then, the Tooth Fairy herself visits during the middle of the night, exchanging the tooth for a gift or monetary reward. The Tooth Fairy is a lovely fantasy, but how exactly did she originate? FAIRIES, FAIRIES EVERYWHERE The beginnings of the Tooth Fairy probably began many centuries ago in a cu

Do Baby Gadgets Increase New Moms' Burnout?

You can be a great parent and you will still run into problems, hurdles, and painful life lesSons. I relished the mystery of pregnancy, the wonder of carrying around a little stranger whom I had not met yet. We didn't know whether we were expecting a boy or girl, and we decided we wouldn't settle on a name until after our baby was born. Making peace with that bit of uncertainty helped me remember later on that I can't always expect motherhood to conform to my expectations and wishes. Another problem with the way baby gadgets are promoted is that new parents will feel guilty if they don't try a program that might help. The marketing messages play on the worries generated by the inherent uncertainties of childbirth.
