Baby CareInfantile AcneAuthor: Paul Banas
Infantile acne is a term used for the acne that affects toddlers between the age of three and 12 months. On rare occasions, infantile acne may persist in toddlers until the age of three. This type of acne is slightly more severe than baby acne that affects toddlers immediately after birth. Infantile acne usually results from hormonal changes during the birth of the toddler.
Toddlers affected with infantile acne generally have yellow papules on their face. They may also have blackheads, whiteheads and pustules.
Normally infantile acne is self-corrective and is remedied within a few months of its eruption. However, some times the acne can be severe enough to require treatment. It is worthwhile to note that in some cases toddlers with infantile acne may develop acne again in their teens.
Following are some cases when it is advisable to provide treatment for infantile acne:

Toilet Learning for ToddlersAuthor: Paul Banas
Toileting (or using the potty) is one of the most basic physical needs of young children. It is also one of the most difficult topics of communication among parents, child care providers, and health care professionals when asked to determine the "right" age a child should be able to successfully and consistently use the toilet.
Most agree that the methods used to potty train can have major emotional effects on children. The entire process—from diapering infants to teaching toddlers and preschoolers about using the toilet—should be a positive one. Often, and for many reasons, toilet learning becomes an unnecessary struggle for control between adults and children. Many families feel pressured to potty train children by age two because of strict child care program policies, the overall inconvenience of diapering, or urging from their pediatricians, early childhood columnists, researchers, other family members, friends, etc.
The fact is that the abil
Choose your Parenting StyleAuthor: Paul Banas
Your parenting style is likely to impact the way your child grows up. Being responsive to your children, and at the same time, setting clear rules and limits, is crucial for you as a parent. Based on this, four main styles of parenting have been identified:
• "Just do it or else" – Some parents adopt a highly authoritarian, dictatorial style. They expect children to obey orders without questioning. Rules are well defined in such households and breaking them usually invites punishment. Such a system is typical of societies where little change is expected and deviance from normal behavior can be costly such as a rural or agrarian society.
• "A no means a no" – Some parents are firm, assertive, and authoritative without being authoritarian. They set clear rules, and are firm about discipline without using harsh punishment. Children in such homes are expected to be socially responsible.
• "Do anything you want" – Parents with this
Help your Sick ToddlerAuthor: Paul Banas
Toddlers are prone to ailments easily and frequently. However, they also tend to recover rather quickly once given proper treatment.
Some of the common ailments that are likely to attack your toddlers include fever, skin infections, cough/cold, dental problems etc. You can treat minor ailments by yourself with the help of a well-stocked medicine chest. However, please note that serious and prolonged ailments would require the attention of a qualified physician.
If your toddler is sick with cold, you may try the following tips to help overcome the illness:
• Apply a balm or petroleum jelly around the nostrils to provide relief and reduce irritation
• Give your toddler a steam bath
• Use a moist piece of cloth to wipe your toddler’s running nose dry
• Consult a doctor if symptoms persist for too long
If your toddler is sick with fever, you may try the following tips to help overcome the illness:
